Salta - Cafayate - February/March 2010

At 3.20 p.m. we arrived to Salta. First think we bought the bus ticket for Tilcara (46 pesos per each - company: Balut ) and then we went to the Hostel. The Omnibus station is about 25 minutes walking from the center.

Then we went in the center and we rented a car: For a 1 day small car with almost full insurance (except 1.500 pesos in case of big damage) and 400 Km included the cost was 300 pesos.

Salta is a very nice small city. You can easily relax over there. The cost of the life is about 30% less than Buenos Aires. Of corse there is much less to do in the city than in Buenos Aires but to relax is really good. A nice, cheap and fun place to eat is: La Casona del Mulino (about 3 Km away from the center - Take a Taxi and say "La Casona del Molino") where people use to go to play music. There are several rooms where you can listent to different singers or players. Usually they start after 10.30 p.m. It's a real Pena and you don't have to pay for the "show" :o) Don't miss also the Panaderia La Cabana (Peat. Alberdi, 34) Don't miss the Museo de Alta Montana in the Main square.

Around in a day trip you can easily go to Cafayate (where they produce the wines) 380 Km . The road is wonderful. The first 90 minutes are nice but then it's great. At 9.30 a.m. we started our trip to Cafayate. Cafayate is nice but the best part of the trip is the way to Cafayate. Wonderful landscape. Beautiful places like "La garganta del diablo" Gps waypoint: S25 50.935 W65 42.119 - El Anfiteatro: Gps waypoint: S25 51.222 W65 42.153 Casa de Loros where you'll be able to se a lot of small parrots. In this place, on the red rocks you'll see hundreds holes...these are the "houses" of the parrots. thousands years ago people uset to put some kind of wine over there...the parrots got drunk and they learned to speak easily.
