MENDOZA- February/March 2010

At 10.30 a.m.. we arrived to Mendoza. Mendoza is a very nice small city next to the Andes. It's very famous for the wine. it's also an important base for the climbers before getting the Aconcagua, the highest mountain of Americas. First  we bought the bus ticket for La Rioja (116 pesos each) and then we went to the Hostel. The Hostel, 1.2 Km away from the center is the Triskel. Friendly stuff and nice and family atmosphere. 40 pesos per night in a 6 beds dorm with shared bathrooms and breakfast.
Then we went for a nice walk in the center and we had a dinner. The Dinner was great at Las Tinajas. Tenedor Libre that means all you can eat. Very good quality and you really eat a lot without spending too much. 90 pesos in 2 with 1 liter of water.

February 22 - Wake up at 7.00. Waiting the car we booked. At 8.10 the man of the rental car company arrived...The prices fixed was 220 pesos but....when the guy arrived told us that it was just for 100 km. (Argentina is Huge...where should we go with 100 Km return???) so with no Km limit and with the full insurance the cost flyed to 480 pesos!!!!!!.....The company name is Rent a car Mendoza!...Of course we refused the "offer" and we decided to have a walk in the town.... We decided to get 2 tours. 1 tours to the Winery and another one on February 23 to the Ruta 7 and Cristo Redentor at the border with Chile. We went for a walk and at 14.30 we started the tour. The company name (just to forget it) is: Geoxvix...The tours are just an excuse to take people to shop...Inside the wineries they just show you a couple of things and then Straight to the shopping area!!!....But the worst thing was at the begining...yep...cause we went in the house of a lady that just showed us her garden, talked of nothing during 50 minutes and took us at her shopping room...the very funny thing was that she showed us her Apple tree...then she started to collect some apples from the ground (5 or 6) we also helped her cause we were sure she wanted to share them with us...NO WAY....she wanted to sell them!!!!!!!!! :o)))

February 23- Wake up at 6.00 a.m. At 7.30 GeoxVix picked us up at the Hostel....mamma mia...another "John Wayne Adventure"....we called "John Wayne Adventure" cause it's like an adventure but of the movie ... people really think to be in an adventure...often they use the hat like "John Wayne " ;o) but there is nothing of adventure...everything is totally super organize...they even tehh you when you have to breath :o))
The "guides" were initially friendly but when they understood that we didn't want to shop and to enjoy the panorama we refused to eat where they wanted us to eat (nothing was included of course) they stopped to be nice and...when I asked to stop a few minutes to see the old Andinean Cemetery that was on the way back they refused to do it!!!
we were lucky just because the landscape and the places we visited were fantastic...otherwise this  tour was awful!

At the Cristo Redentor - 3.800 mt (not 4.000 as they say)

At the Cristo Redentor

Where we eat instead the Geox vix tour "Advice"

At the Cristo Redentor

Nice people we could miss to meet if we followed all the Geoxvix "Advices" ;o)

Puente del Incas
Gps point:

The Old Road (Alternative to the RN7) to the Cristo Redentor

The Water is full of Minerals and if you leave something during 1 day....this is the result.
The Ruta 7 is really beautiful but to get the Cristo redentor we took the old road which is spectacular. The road is not a a good condition so if you decide to do it...the way up using the old road and the way down using the good Ruta 7. almost nobody gets down using the old road.  The Cristo Redentor is next to the border with Chile (Gps coordinates - S32 49.502 W70 04.243 ) it's at 3.800 mt (not 4.000 as the guides say) The view is very beautiful. On the top there are 2 flags that are considered the borders between Argentina and Chile.
