Villa El Chocon The land of dinosaurs - February/March 2010
|
At 09.10 a.m. we arrived to Villa El chocon...or better...the bus stop was in the middle of nowhere on the main road 2.7 Km away from Villa El Chocon :o)
|
The village is nice and next to the lake(about 400 mt above the sea level). Very quiet and super safe. When we arrived in the center we went to the kiosk next to the supermamket and they found an accommodation for us. A small apartment with kitchen and a bedroom for 4 (but we were just 3) 200 pesos per night (Gps Coordinates: S39 15.685 W68 47.116) . There was notning else. Just people that rent their houses. No hotel no hostel no bed and breakfast in the center so we got it. Then we bought as well the ticket for Bariloche for the next day (Company Via Bariloche price 62 pesos each) Then we rented 2 mountain bikes for 7 hours and we also got a tour (only for us) for the total price of 220 pesos.
The Mountain Bike tour tp the Canadon Escondido was great!! About 3 hours under the strong sun...We discovered some very beautiful landscapes and some super interesting fossil footprint of Dinosaurs.Villa El chocon is known as the Land of Dinosaurs. Giganotosaurus Carolini in the Ernesto Bachmann Palaeontological Museum (Gps coordinates: S39 15.643 W68 47.012 ) .

Very Interesting the Ernesto Bachmann Palaeontological Museum. Where you can also find several fossils. Villa El Chocon is a place out of the main touristic circuit but for us it's worth going there if you want to enjoy a very quiet safe and relaxing place with 240 milions years old mountains
